Aberfeldy  
 

The village of Aberfeldy is situated near Perthshire's largest loch~Loch Tay and
its highest mountain Ben Lawers, famed for its wonderful Alpine flora.
Closeby (9 miles) is Glengoulandie Deer Park where herds of red deer, highland
cattle and birds can be seen in their natural surroundings.
Near the eastern shore of Loch Tay is Taymouth Castle and it is here golfers can
enjoy the 18 hole parkland course.
A 25 mile drive close to along the shores of Loch Tay leads to Killin and Rob Roy
country while 15 miles northeast is the lovely Perthshire town of Pitlochry.
Activities in the area include golfing, fishing, water sports and hill walking.

Aberfoyle  
 

Aberfoyle is the southern gateway to the Trossachs and a village popular
with tourists.
The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park Visitor Centre is above the town, with
superb views of the Lowlands. There are numerous wooded walks nearby.
From Aberfoyle there is a scenic road to Stronachlachar and Inversnaid, with
picturesque views of Loch Lomond and the Arrochar Alps on the way.
Within easy reach is the scenic lake of Menteith with the ruins of the 13th
century Inchmahome Priory on one of its islands and beautiful Loch Katrine
where you can have a boat trip on the loch on the Sir Walter Scott.

Anstruther  
  Anstruther is a lovely little fishing town on the “East Neuk” (east corner) of Fife
with the Scottish Fisheries Museum on its attractive harbour front.
Within easy distance of the town lies Kellie Castle, with its sheltered and
colourful walled garden.
On the waterfront the Scottish Fisheries Museum is housed in a complex of
buildings, of which the oldest dates from the 16th century.
The museum portrays the struggle of the east-coast fishermen from the earliest
times, with artefacts both old and new, documents and historic photographs.
There are also various tableaux and an aquarium, and floating exhibits.

Arbroath  
  Arbroath is a delightful seaside holiday resort as well as a busy fishing port.
The local delicacy is the Arbroath smokie—or smoked haddock.
The ruined Arbroath Abbey is associated with the Declaration of Arbroath in
1320, asserting Scotland's independence.
The Signal Tower Museum highlights the fishing heritage of the town and
tells the story of the building of the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
Here you will also find Kerr's Miniature Railway a delight to generations of
small children.
A few miles south is Carnoustie with its famous championship golf courses.

Auchterarder  
  Auchterarder lies close to the north–south route linking Stirling and Perth
and is well supplied with shops selling antiques and quality woollens,
largely due to the proximity of Gleneagles with its internationally renowned
golf course.
Standing in the fields 3 miles northwest of the town is Tullibardine Chapel,
founded in 1446, a rare surviving example of a rural place of worship,
while the 300-year-old Innerpeffray Library on the road to Crieff is Scotland's
oldest public library.
A visit to Drummond Castle and its beautiful gardens is not to be missed.

Blairgowrie  
  Blairgowrie is a lovely town on the banks of the River Ericht, and was formerly
associated with textile mills, which used the water power of the Ericht.
With the decline of the mills, it became a centre for growing soft fruit such as
raspberries.
Keathbank Mill is a restored mill which now houses a heraldry workshop, and
what claims to be the largest model railway of its kind in Britain.
The mill's waterwheel and some of the machinery are also on view.
To the south of the town is the Meikleour Beech Hedge, planted in 1745, which
is the tallest hedge in Britain.

Broughty Ferry  
  Broughty Ferry is situated on the northern shores of the River Tay and is a
popular resort with a harbour and fine beach lying within easy reach of the
golfing meccas of Carnoustie and St. Andrews and the City of Dundee.
Nearby Broughty Castle overlooks the entrance to the Firth of Tay - a
strategic location in the days of naval conflict. The castle dates from the
fifteenth century.
It now houses a museum dedicated to the whaling industry and the military
history of the area. The exhibits include arms and armour, as well as a
display of seashore life.

Burntisland  
 

Burntisland lies between Kirkcaldy and North Queensferry on the northern
shores of the Firth of Forth.
Within easy reach are Edinburgh, Couper, and the golfers mecca, St.Andrews.
At North Queensferry, Deep Sea World claims to have the largest underwater
viewing tunnel in Europe, as well as touch pools and a coral reef exhibit.
There are new piranha and seahorse displays.
St Fillan's church is one of a group of interesting medieval buildings in the small
seaside resort of Aberdour (4 miles). Its chancel, some of the windows, and part
of the nave are Norman, while the rest of the building dates from the 16th century.

Callander  
  Callander forms one of the main gateways to the Highlands.
It is located at the eastern end of the Trossachs and at the southern end of the
Pass of Leny, and is an ideal base for those wishing to explore the area.
Callander has the Rob Roy and Trossachs Visitor Centre situated in the town square.
The centre houses a display and multimedia presentations.
A little further north is the eastern end of Balquhidder Glen, and in Balquhidder
churchyard is the grave of Rob Roy.
The scenic Callander to Strathyre Cycleway is to be found north of the town.
It is part of the National Cycle Network and this part is six miles long.

Carnoustie  
  Carnoustie will require little introduction to golfers as it is renowned for its
championship golf courses.
Here too you will find a leisure centre and watersports, fine countryside within
easy reach, notably at Monikie and Crombie Country Parks, with their lochs
and waterside walks.
Monikie Country Park offers 185 acres of parkland and mixed woodland.
It is ideal for walking and is a great venue for fishing and watersports.
Activities in the area include golfing, sailing, wind surfing, fishing, tennis,
bowls and putting.

Crail  
  The easternmost of the East Neuk (east corner) of Fife's fishing villages, Crail
is also one of the most attractive and has a lovely picturesque harbour.
As a long-established royal burgh, Crail had strong trading links with the Low
Countries across the North Sea—the crow-stepped gables and other architectural
features show Dutch influence, while the Town House bell, cast in 1520, carries a
Dutch inscription.
The story of the town is told in the Crail Museum and Heritage Centre, which is
housed in an 18th-century building.

Crieff  
  The hilly town of Crieff formerly played a central role in Scotland's cattle trade,
as a site of an important market or “tryst”.
Today, it is a popular holiday spot with a good range of visitor facilities, such as
shopping, golf, and distillery visits—the Glenturret Distillery is nearby.
By the River Earn is a further cluster of visitor attractions. These include a crystal
glass factory, where glass blowing can be seen, and a pottery and paperweight
manufacturer at the Crieff Visitors Centre.
To the south, at Drummond Castle, are attractive sunken gardens in an Italianate,
terraced style, where some scenes from the 1995 film Rob Roy were shot.

Dundee  
  Dundee is Scotland's fourth-largest city, with a natural deep-water harbour and
the textiles, jam, and newspaper publishing industries bringing prosperity to the
town in the 19th century.
Dundee now houses the RRS Discovery, the Antarctic exploration ship built here
and associated with Captain Scott and his ill-fated South Pole expedition.
This vessel is now the centrepiece of a quayside visitor development, Discovery
Point.
Close by is the frigate HMS Unicorn, the oldest British warship afloat (built 1824).
Dundee also has a fine selection of museums and galleries well worthy of a visit.

Dunkeld  
 

The pleasant village of Dunkeld is noted for its cathedral.
Originally 12th-century, it has been restored and is now the parish church.
Here too is Dunkeld Bridge (1809), one of the finest by engineer Thomas Telford.
Nearby is the Hermitage, the former wooded pleasure grounds of the local
lairds, the Dukes of Atholl.
An attractive belvedere is sited above a waterfall and Scotland's tallest tree
grows here, a Douglas fir, 60 metres (200 feet) tall.
The village is suited to those seeking a relaxing holiday and makes a good
base for touring the area.

Killin  
  The attractive village of Killin is located at the western end of LochTay,
renowned for its salmon fishing.
Closeby you will find the Falls of Dochart while Lochernhead, Balquhidder
and Strathyre are within east reach.
The area is abundant in wildlife and there are many fine walks to enjoy.
To the west lies Tyndrum and the strategically located Crianlarich while
eastwards lies Crieff and the market town of Perth with its excellent shopping
facilities.
In Balquhidder churchyard is the grave of the famous Rob Roy MacGregor.

Kirkcaldy  
  A major town in the former Kingdom of Fife, Kirkcaldy was the birthplace
(in 1723) of the economist Adam Smith.
The Kirkcaldy Museum has displays on the local industrial heritage, which
includes mining, linoleum manufacture, and pottery.
The local Wemyss Ware china cats are available in Kirkcaldy's antique shops.
The Kirkcaldy Art Gallery has an outstanding collection of Scottish paintings,
including works by Samuel Peploe and William McTaggart.
Near the town is Ravenscraig Castle, a grim 15th-century tower guarding the
approaches to the Firth of Forth.

Lower Largo

  Lochearnhead is situated on the western shores of the beautiful Loch Earn.
Close to Lochernhead are Balquhidder, Strathyre and Killin with its famous
Falls of Dochart, each well worthy of a visit.
This is Rob Roy country and you can find his grave in the little churchyard
at Balquhidder.

Montrose  
  The popular holiday resort of Montrose sits in on a natural harbour known as
Montrose basin, famous as a bird sanctuary and containing a visitor centre.
The sanctuary is best seen at high tide, especially in autumn when migrant
geese call there.
The well-designed visitor centre has an exhibition and telescopes overlooking
the estuary.
There is a fine sandy beach and activities in the area include golfing, fishing,

Perth  
  Perth is a thriving market town despite being destroyed by successive waves
of invaders, including English kings, followers of the Reformation, and Oliver
Cromwell's Roundheads. The city now is largely an early 19th-century creation.
Central Perth has many handsome buildings, especially in the area overlooking
the wide River Tay.
An excellent local museum, art gallery, repertory theatre, and the Museum of
the Black Watch (a famous Scottish army regiment) are some of the attractions.
The highlight of the city is the sumptuous Scone Palace, where Scottish kings
were crowned.

Pitlochry  
  Claimed to be the exact centre of Scotland, Pitlochry is situated amid attractive
Highland scenery and is a popular tourist resort.
Its attractions include a fish ladder, where salmon can be seen leaping upriver to
spawn, and a Hydro-Electric Dam Exhibition Centre.
Pitlochry also has a very popular summer theatre.
Northward and within easy reach is the Pass of Killiecrankie Visitor Centre, near
the site of a famous Jacobite battle in 1689.
Further north is the popular Blair Castle, while a little west of Pitlochry is the
Queen's View of Loch Tummel., where there is a forestry visitor centre.

St Andrews  
  The ancient town of St Andrews is a former important religious centre and home
of the oldest university in Scotland.
With a ruined cathedral, St Andrews Castle, and West Port, the only town gate

However, St Andrews is most famous as the home of golf, with its Old Course–

Stirling  
  With its crag-top castle dominating the old town, Stirling played a central role
in Scotland's tumultuous history.
Stirling Castle formerly guarded the routes between the Highlands and the
Lowlands, and below its walls Robert the Bruce defeated the English at the
crucial Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
The Bannockburn Heritage Centre tells the story and is just one of a range of
historical attractions within the town.
Pageants, street theatre, and ceilidhs featuring pipe bands often take place in
the streets of Stirling in the summer.
