Aboyne  
  Surrounding the Green where the famous Highland Games are held, Aboyne
was laid out in 1676. Closeby is the village of Dinnet.
Here too you will find the beautiful Glen Tanar Estate and Braeloine Interpretative
Centre.
To the north is the Lumphanan Peel Ring and the Tomnaverie Stone Circle.
The village has a Community Centre with indoor sports, swimming pool and

  Advie is in Speyside an area renowned for its natural beauty offering

  Rarely will the number of 'By Appointment' signs on shops be encountered
in such number as they are in Ballater.

Banchory  
  Banchory is sheltered by the massive Hill O' Fare on the banks of the salmon-rich river Dee.
Crathes Castle and Gardens (just three miles east of Banchory). was built in 1553 and was the home of the Burnett family of Leys for four centuries. With its fairytale turrets and elaborate gargoyles, this 16th century castle is renowned for both its exterior and interior splendour (many of the rooms still have their original painted ceilings).
An ideal location for touring Royal Deeside, Banchory is a popular centre with visiters from all over the world.

Banff  
  Banff is an historic coastal town with many finely restored 18th century buildings
and Colleonard Sculpture Gardens.
The magnificent Adam mansion Duff House (HS) operates as an outstation
of the National Galleries of Scotland. There is also a town museum.
There are Walkman tape tours from Easter to October and activities in the area

Boat of Garten  
  The village of Boat of Garten lies on the River Spey around 4 miles north
of the winter sports and summer resort of Aviemore.
Nearby is the Osprey Center and beautiful Loch Garten.
The quiet village is well suited to touring the area and is a favourite of anglers
who can enjoy both river and loch fishing.
There is a local hotel where meals are available but the main shopping
centre is Aviemore where all kinds of activities are available.

Braemar  
  Braemar is the eastern gateway to the Cairngorm mountains and an ideal
centre for walkers and naturalists.
The famous Braemar Gathering is held on the first Saturday in September
each year.

  Cullen is a captivating little town on the Moray Firth with a magnificent bay,
picturesque Seatown, Georgian New Town, striking arched viaducts, and
a 14th century church.
The Coastal Trail passes through Cullen and a visit to the Tugnet Ice House is recommended.

Laurancekirk  
  Laurencekirk is the principal town in the Howe o' the Mearns, it is an ideal base

The picture shows this unusual 1888 crow-stepped gothic stone arch across
the road with the church spire clearly visible as you enter the beautiful village of
Edzell.

Montrose  
  The popular holiday resort of Montrose sits in on a natural harbour known as
Montrose basin, famous as a bird sanctuary and containing a visitor centre.
The sanctuary is best seen at high tide, especially in autumn when migrant
geese call there.

Pictish prince.
