"Gledfield Mill" is a converted water mill sitting on the banks of the river Caron in Sutherland, Scotland.

The mill is a split-level building set in an acre of wooded gardens with a three acre field, overlooking the river to the north and open fields to the south and was renovated in 1996 to an exceptional standard.

Surrounded by farmland, the village of Ardgay lies at the head of the Dornoch Firth just south of Bonar Bridge.

There are shops in the village and public transport is available.

The mill is within 45 minutes by road from Inverness, Dingwall and Beauly, three hours from Edinburgh and three and a half hours from Glasgow.

There is an abundance of wild life which can be enjoyed while walking among peaceful tranquil surroundings.

Visitors are made welcome at the 9-hole upland golf course near Bonar Bridge.

In Dornoch (13 miles) the challenging 36-hole seaside course of The Royal Dornoch can be enjoyed.

Dornoch also has long stretches of clean, unspoiled sandy beaches together with a variety of shops, hotels and restaurants.

The area provides ample opportunity to enjoy river and loch fishing as well as walking and hill walking activities.

The area has a long and interesting history and a large white boulder in the centre of Ardgay marks the former site of the local market ~ The Clach Eiteag.

Cromarty Courthouse, Cromarty (19 miles) is worthy of a visit. The Courthouse was built in 1773, when commercial activity in the town had reached a peak, and is notable among the many fine Georgian buildings that have survived here.

Today it is a visitor centre with animated period figures, a reconstructed trial, prison cells, and plenty of background information about its role when Cromarty was a thriving burgh.

'Gledfield Mill' is ideally located for those wishing to tour both east and west Highlands.

Ardgay is approximately 40 miles from Inverness Airport.

The building is let with linen and towels.

Help with cleaning during the let can be arranged.

Heating/lighting costs are included in the rent, as are logs for the wood-burner.
