Our apartment is within the stunning Highland Club, formerly St Benedictines Abbey in Fort Augustus.

A 5 star accommodation set within the Grade A listed building that was once the original Fort, within 21 acres of private loch-side grounds on the edge of Fort Augustus town. The Highland Club grounds are perched on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water- Loch Ness to the north, the Caledonian canal to the west and the river Tarff to the east.

A superior quality furnished apartment within a superb building steeped in history, set in the most beautiful and picturesque of landscapes on the southern tip of Loch Ness nestled in the Great Glen.

You will not be disappointed for a break away to our luxurious apartment to relax in, with the prospect of local hill walking, mountain climbing, cycling, fishing, golfing, etc., or just simply relaxing away from it all and enjoying the stunning setting views and all that The Highland Club has to offer.

From the relaxing Club Lounge, to pampering yourself in the Club swimming pool and spa facilities.  From a game of outdoor tennis, to casting a line to catch salmon or trout, or enjoying a meal in the Boathouse restaurant overlooking the Loch, and all this is on offer still within the grounds of The Highland Club.

The Highland Club also offers you porterage with security available on site 24 hours a day.

The lovely and picturesque town of Fort Augustus is literally on the doorstep just outside of the grounds gates.  The town offers a selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, and is situated either side of the stepped locks of the Caledonian canal which runs into Loch Ness to the west of the Highland Club grounds.

To the north 30 minutes is the Highland capital of Inverness. To the south 20 minutes is the town of Fort William.

Holly Cottage

Holly Cottage is a detached holiday cottage in its own grounds within a quiet secluded forestal area four miles from Loch Ness, which is said to be the home of the Loch Ness Monster called "Nessie".

The cottage is situated about four miles from Drumnadrochit, which has four hotels, a cafe, pizza place, post office, super market and doctors surgery.

Attractions in the area include:
Horse riding sessions available for booking. 
Cruises of Loch Ness. 
Visit the Loch Ness center, which also has a variety of small gift shops. 
Beautiful walking paths and mountain climbing. 
Bird watching. 
Fishing and hunting.

Two miles from the cottage is a wonderful bar and restaurant called "The Steading Bar" which is highly recommended.

Glen Affric is six miles from the cottage, and is host to the most magnificent and thrilling scenery which you can find during hillwalking experiences.

The city of Inverness is 19 miles from the cottage and contains the usual high street shops and many tourist attractions, including nightclubs and the new Aquadome. You can also take advantage of the many bus tours available.

Places to visit, approximately one and a quarter hours journey are: Skye, Aviemore, Ullapool, Fort William.

Castles and Forts in the area:
Urquhart Castle (Drumnadrochit).
Eilean Donan Castle (Kyle of Lochalsh - approx. two hours travel).
Dunnrobin Castle (Golspie - approx. two hours travel).
Fort George - Ardersier containing a military museum.

There are various distilleries to visit, and watersports at Lochinch and the Great Glen Water Park. 
Skiing is availabile at Aviemore and the Nevis range at Fort William.

"Riverside Cottage" is a beautifully renovated, traditional crofting cottage situated in Rearquhar, 4 miles from Dornoch.

It is perfect as a peaceful retreat for those seeking an "away from it all" holiday and as a base for scenic drives, touring the Highlands, and enjoying the wildlife.

The numerous golf courses in the region are superb and include the world famous Dornoch Links Course.

Loch and river fishing is varied and excellent, and the sea angling from boat or shore is well worth experiencing.

To the west and southwest are the Tropical Gardens at Inverewe, the scenic splendour of Loch Maree and the picturesque fishing port of Ullapool with it's ferry link to Stornoway.

Closer is Loch Shin and the famous Falls of Shin where salmon can be seen leaping at certain times of year.

To the north is the Kyle of Tongue, Bettyhill, Naver Bay and a multitude of sandy coves set between rocky headlands.

Within an approximate 25 mile radius are Dunrobin Castle, Liath Brochs, Hilton of Cadboll Chapel, Balnagowan Castle and Dunbeath Castle.

The Dornoch Firth is famed for it's vast stretches of clean, sandy beaches.

Dornoch is approximately 43 miles from the Highland capital of Inverness.

The Village of Drumnadrochit with it's Loch Ness Visitor Centre is a further 14 miles, the road hugging the shores of this world famous loch.

The ruins of Urquhart Castle on route to Drumnadrochit are well worthy of a visit.

The views of Loch Ness from the castle grounds are spectacular and a great many sightings of the famous "Loch Ness Monster" have been made from the castle grounds.

"Dun Calan Cottage" is situated on a hill above Beauly giving extended views over the surrounding countryside.

There is an abundance of wild life which can be enjoyed while walking among peaceful tranquil surroundings.

The area provides ample opportunity to enjoy river and loch fishing as well as walking and hill walking activities.

Golfers will find many excellent courses within easy reach at Muir of Ord, Inverness and Nairn.

There is much of interest in the area, the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, being 14 miles from Beauly.

A visit to Loch Ness and the village of Drumnadrochit (14 miles from Inverness) with its Loch Ness Monster Centre is high on the list of visitors to the area.

Close to Drumnadrochit is the magnificent ruins of Urquhart Castle from where there are excellent views of Loch Ness.

To the east of Inverness is the formidable fortress of Fort George where visitors can enjoy the military museum.

South of Fort George is Culloden Battlefield where there is a visitor center complete with audio/visual displays.

The Battle of Culloden took place on 16 April 1746 on this moorland site, about 6 miles east of Inverness, a spot now marked by memorials to those who died and by marker boards explaining the course of the battle.

Culloden marked the final victory of George II's troops over Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Close to Culloden Battlefield is the prehistoric Clava Cairns and Cawdor Castle.

Cawdor Castle is a fairy-tale assemblage of pinnacles, crenellations, and dungeons, built around a 1372 tower during the succeeding three centuries.  Cawdor is full of treasures: tapestries, paintings by the 18th-century portraitists George Romney, Sir Thomas Lawrence, and Sir Joshua Reynolds, opulent furniture, and a Victorian kitchen. 
Beautiful grounds include a walled garden with a maze, nature trails, a picnic area, and a 9-hole golf course.

To the northeast of Beauly is Cromarty Courthouse, Cromarty (25 miles) is worthy of a visit.

The Courthouse was built in 1773, when commercial activity in the town had reached a peak, and is notable among the many fine Georgian buildings that have survived here. Today it is a visitor centre with animated period figures, a reconstructed trial, prison cells, and plenty of background information about its role when Cromarty was a thriving burgh.

With so much to do and see, it is little wonder so many enjoy a holiday in this area year after year.
