Our apartment is within the stunning Highland Club, formerly St Benedictines Abbey in Fort Augustus.

A 5 star accommodation set within the Grade A listed building that was once the original Fort, within 21 acres of private loch-side grounds on the edge of Fort Augustus town. The Highland Club grounds are perched on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water- Loch Ness to the north, the Caledonian canal to the west and the river Tarff to the east.

A superior quality furnished apartment within a superb building steeped in history, set in the most beautiful and picturesque of landscapes on the southern tip of Loch Ness nestled in the Great Glen.

You will not be disappointed for a break away to our luxurious apartment to relax in, with the prospect of local hill walking, mountain climbing, cycling, fishing, golfing, etc., or just simply relaxing away from it all and enjoying the stunning setting views and all that The Highland Club has to offer.

From the relaxing Club Lounge, to pampering yourself in the Club swimming pool and spa facilities.  From a game of outdoor tennis, to casting a line to catch salmon or trout, or enjoying a meal in the Boathouse restaurant overlooking the Loch, and all this is on offer still within the grounds of The Highland Club.

The Highland Club also offers you porterage with security available on site 24 hours a day.

The lovely and picturesque town of Fort Augustus is literally on the doorstep just outside of the grounds gates.  The town offers a selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, and is situated either side of the stepped locks of the Caledonian canal which runs into Loch Ness to the west of the Highland Club grounds.

To the north 30 minutes is the Highland capital of Inverness. To the south 20 minutes is the town of Fort William.

Lochcarron

Tigh Charrann is situated in an elevated position on a south facing hillside overlooking Loch Carron.

The property is in a quiet location, near to the centre of the village and within a few minutes walking distance of most local amenities.

The apartment is on the lower ground floor of the house and has magnificent views south over Loch Carron towards Attadale.

Lochcarron is approximately 63 miles west of Inverness and is an excellent centre for touring.

To the north and west are the Applecross Peninsula (approached by one of the highest roads in Britain), the Torridon Hills, the beautiful Loch Maree and Gairloch with its famed clean sandy beaches.

To the south and west are Loch Alsh and the new Skye road bridge and the magnificent scenery of Glenelg (with its brochs) and the lands of Kintail.

Closer to Lochcarron are the picturesque villages of Shieldaig and Plockton, the latter being the location setting for the "Hamish MacBeth" TV series.

Lochcarron has a 9-hole golf course open to visitors and loch, river and sea fishing are available locally.  A superb area for hill walking and seeing wild life, there is also a public slipway and five visitor moorings available for those who enjoy sailing and water sports.

The village has a bank (with cashpoint), butcher's shop, Spar shop/post office, together with another well-stocked shop at Lochcarron Garage.  There are also gift shops, local wood-turning and pottery manufacturers, and a weavers' shop.

There are two hotels, a cafe, two local garages and two filling stations in the village.

There is a railway station at Strathcarron.

Large shopping centres are located in Dingwall (50 miles) and Inverness (63 miles).

French windows give superb views to the south across Loch Carron.

The dining area has pine table and chairs and a serving hatch to the kitchen.

Strathcarron

Blackwood Croft Apartment

Blackwood is a working croft situated in a quiet rural position within the Arinackaig Estate, approximately 1 mile east of the small community of Strathcarron.

The property is approached via a very quiet side road which serves just a very small handful of scattered houses.

The holiday accommodation is a completely self-contained, purpose-built, 2-bedroom apartment on the upper floor of a modern croft house.

The accommodation is all on one floor and has its own front door, separate from the entrance to the remainder of the house.

The property is modern in design, light, airy, and spacious, and is finished to a high standard.

There is ample off-road parking space, and there are superb panoramic views from the windows.

Well behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

Strathcarron is close to the West Coast of the Scottish Highlands, some 63 miles west of Inverness, just at the head of Loch Carron.

It is an excellent base for touring the North West Highlands, with places such as Plockton, Applecross (with its famous high-level approach via the Bealach na Ba), Shieldaig, Torridon, and Skye, all being within easy reach.

There are many good walks in the area to suit all tastes and abilities, ranging from gentle strolls to more serious hill-walking.

There are several Munro's in the vicinity, and a number of long-distance walks starting from Glen Carron just a short distance to the east.

River, loch, and sea fishing are all available locally, and Lochcarron, just 4 miles away, has a slipway for launching boats, together with a number of visitor moorings.

There is a golf course just half a mile to the east of Lochcarron village, to which visitors are welcome.  The course is on the shores of Loch Carron in a lovely setting with superb views south across the loch.

Make sure you take your camera!

Strathcarron village is just 1 mile to the west of Blackwood and has a post office/store where you can access e-mail, an IT centre, and a hotel which is open to non-residents and which serves bar meals.

For those who enjoy a gentle stroll to the pub on a summer's evening, the Strathcarron Hotel is within 20 minutes' very easy walking distance of the apartment.

Lochcarron village is 4 miles away and has all necessary local amenities, with hotels, bars, restaurants, garages, filling stations, food shops, post office, and a bank (with cashpoint).

Holly Cottage is a detached holiday cottage in its own grounds within a quiet secluded forestal area four miles from Loch Ness, which is said to be the home of the Loch Ness Monster called "Nessie".

The cottage is situated about four miles from Drumnadrochit, which has four hotels, a cafe, pizza place, post office, super market and doctors surgery.

Attractions in the area include:
Horse riding sessions available for booking. 
Cruises of Loch Ness. 
Visit the Loch Ness center, which also has a variety of small gift shops. 
Beautiful walking paths and mountain climbing. 
Bird watching. 
Fishing and hunting.

Two miles from the cottage is a wonderful bar and restaurant called "The Steading Bar" which is highly recommended.

Glen Affric is six miles from the cottage, and is host to the most magnificent and thrilling scenery which you can find during hillwalking experiences.

The city of Inverness is 19 miles from the cottage and contains the usual high street shops and many tourist attractions, including nightclubs and the new Aquadome. You can also take advantage of the many bus tours available.

Places to visit, approximately one and a quarter hours journey are: Skye, Aviemore, Ullapool, Fort William.

Castles and Forts in the area:
Urquhart Castle (Drumnadrochit).
Eilean Donan Castle (Kyle of Lochalsh - approx. two hours travel).
Dunnrobin Castle (Golspie - approx. two hours travel).
Fort George - Ardersier containing a military museum.

There are various distilleries to visit, and watersports at Lochinch and the Great Glen Water Park. 
Skiing is availabile at Aviemore and the Nevis range at Fort William.
