Bedroom   17 Uigen

'17 Uigen' is a recently refurbished traditional croft house with breathtaking views of West Loch Roag and the surrounding hills providing excellent self-catering accommodation for 6 in a genuine 'away-from-it all' holiday location.

Nearby are magnificent clean sandy beaches while a shop and two restaurants are in the local area.

Boat trips to the surrounding islands are available from the village.

The spectacular landscapes, beautiful walks and varied wildlife draw visitors to the Western Isles from all over the world, many returning year after year to enjoy the peace and beauty of this tranquil location.

The Western Isles lying off the Scottish coast extend from the Butt of Lewis to the Isle of Barra.

The islands are known for their unspoilt, silvery beaches, and the white, shell-sand pastures, known as machair, are havens for birdlife and wild flowers.

The most northerly of the Western Isles, Lewis comprises rolling moorland and low-lying hills dotted with lochs on which there is free trout fishing.

Rugged coastlines fall away to expanses of clean sandy beaches.

Lewis is rich in prehistoric sites, notably the standing stones of Callanish and Steinacleit, and Carloway Broch.

The mysterious cross-shaped arrangement of standing stones at Callanish date from around 4,000 years ago and may, like Stonehenge and other megalithic monuments of similar date, be some form of temple to the sun.

Over 3 metres (10 feet) high and set amid the bare peatlands of the Western Isles, the stones still have an aura of mystery and timeless beauty.

Stornoway (31 miles) on the Isle of Lewis is the main town of the Western Isles. It has an airport and is also reached by ferry from Ullapool on the western seaboard of Scotland.

Stornoway offers attractions such as An Lanntair Gallery, which has a changing programme of exhibitions.

There is a good shopping centre with hotels, restaurants, garages, post office, churches, banks and an 18 hole moorland golf course.

The Black House at Arnol is a fascinating building of a kind once common throughout the Highlands.

The restored traditional village of Garenin shows how life on the island was once lived.
